The European Climate Research Alliance is a bottom-up association of European research institutions helping to facilitate the development of climate change research, combining the capacities of national research institutions and inducing closer ties between existing national research initiatives, projects and infrastructures. This article briefly introduces the network's structure and organisation, as well as project management issues and prospects.

This article is about the importance of recognizing and accepting intercultural differences in the way science is understood and interpreted. By taking individual routines of interpreting science into account, science communication and science management will become more efficient and successful in terms of integrating local communities and non-scientific audiences. We provide examples of how to consider intercultural context while planning field research.

Authors describe basic challenges of project and community management in polar sciences, identified through survey responses in addition to the authors’ own variou professional experiences. Four overarching themes were identified: international cooperation, interdisciplinarity, infrastructure, and community management. Case studies and survey results are discussed with the conclusive goal to provide recommendations on how reach the full potential in polar science project and community management

We believe that project managers can benefit from using programming languages in their work. In this paper we show several simple examples of how python programming language can be used for some of the basic text manipulation tasks, as well as describe more complicated test cases using a HORIZON 2020 type European project as an example.

Marine scientific understanding is fundamental to managing human activities that affect this environment, and ocean observations have a particularly important role in enhancing the knowledge base of our oceans. Scientists have to act in an ethical way and apply all the fundamental principles. This article is an attempt to highlight the core values applicable to ocean observation, which can then be improved and adopted as part of geoethics and the stewardship of the Earth system.

We believe that software project management tools can support and improve the development of scientific software. Its integration in project management needs coordination and planning. In this paper, we discuss opportunities and possible limitations of recent software project management tools with respect to their application in scientific projects in geoscience and climate modelling.
